USA VACATIONS. WEST COAST

This tour is one of the most exciting and enjoyable holidays we have ever had and spanned two weeks in early October 1994.

The tour began with a flight to Los Angeles ( California) via JFK airport in New York and then progressed across into the State of Arizona. After seeing the Grand Canyon we continued into Nevada to see Las Vegas. We then returned to Los Angeles via Yosemite Nation Park and San Francisco. More detail of the attractions in each State follows:-

ARIZONA

On our way through California we stopped off at San Diego which is a convenient place to spend the night before tackling the long drive across Arizona to see Phoenix and Scottsdale.

We then headed north for Flagstaff with the intention of driving, the next day, the 80 miles to the Grand Canyon. Unfortunately it started to snow very heavily and we had to abandon our attempt to get there and carried on to Kingman in Nevada.

NEVADA

From Kingman it was just a short drive into Las Vegas and it is well worth seeing Hoover Dam at Boulder City while you are in this area. In Las Vegas we experienced some of the most memorable sights of our entire lives. You don't need to be a gambler to enjoy the casinos of Las Vegas. Many of them provide spectacular shows inside and outside their premises and all of them provide accommodation and food of exceptional value.

Don't miss the galleon sea battle outside " Treasure Island" and the interior attractions of "Caesar's Palace."

We managed to see the Grand Canyon by travelling back there in a 10 seater tour aircraft.

CALIFORNIA

Leaving Nevada we called in at King's Canyon to see the giant Sequoia trees and the world's oldest living thing - The General Sherman tree, said to be between 2300- 2700 years old.

Continued on to Yosemite National Park to see its panoramic views and waterfalls.

No trip to California is complete without a visit to San Francisco. Drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, eat a bowl of clam chowder at Fisherman's Wharf, visit Alkatraz prison, and take a ride on one of the famous trams.

To travel back to Los Angeles from San Francisco it is essential you take the Pacific Highway and the 17 mile scenic tour to the town of Carmen.

We completed the holiday tour via Monterey and visited Malibu Beach and Universal Studios in Los Angeles.
