PATRICIA HURT

Born 7th March 1951 in Sheffield

Cousin of Tony Jackson and Alan Hurt.

At an early age, Tricia's most noticeable characteristics were her thinness, her lovely hair and her beauty that made her look like a little doll.

The left hand photo above was taken in her back garden in Pomona Street. I had a great affection for her because as I was an only-one  she was like my little sister.

Let's have a bit of fun now. I noticed in the next photo of Tricia on holiday with her Granddad Hurt, she almost looks as though she is standing on his hand.

So with a little software manipulation, she is now!

The photo above left was taken in the back garden of their Pomona Street house. The photo above, right, was taken in 1965 when she was about 14.

The lady on the left is Gladys Bingley who lived 3 doors above Tricia on Pomona Street. I think Tricia looks like a model here so I've given her some colour.

At the age of 17 she wanted her independence and moved out from her Mum's house in Harland Road. She lived in four different bed-sits in the Broomhall area. From there she lived for a while in Parson's Cross before moving to a flat off Ecclesall Road.

Tricia's career began in nursing and she worked at Lodge Moor Hospital. Here, she met paraplegic Derek and became very friendly with him. He was paralysed from the waist down and needed frequent dialysis.

On the 20th December 1980 they married and Tricia moved  to live with him at his house in Grantham.

For 7 years she tendered to his illness needs until he died in 1987. The doctor said his life had undoubtedly been prolonged by the care he had received from Tricia.

In 2004 her mother, Vera, moved in with her at 11, Canterbury Close, Grantham.  When Vera's health began to fail Tricia looked after her until her mother died.

Today 17th August 2015, aged 64, she is still very active using her nursing skills to look after people including a Parkinson's sufferer.
