ALAN HURT

Born: 9th March 1943

This photo was taken in the back garden of Gladys Bingley, 18 Pomona St. The rockery-type mound in the rear of the photo is the Air Raid Shelter. The photo was taken at Whitsuntide when, traditionally, children were dressed in new clothes and visited friends and relations who would give them money.

As cousins, Alan and I were quite close and we had some good times together when we were young. Alan used to love playing games and would often invent new ones. Nothing could come close to the level of enjoyment one game gave us- Blow Football! We couldn't blow for laughing.

Alan was university educated and moved to this house in Rugby:

He commenced work at Hall Green Bilateral School in Birmingham where he met his future wife Janet Mulroney.

After two years he moved to:

Hall Green School.

where he stayed for 9 years in the Maths department.

His final placement was at this school:

Dunsmore School for girls which later became Ashlawn School where he was Head of Maths.

Jacqueline and I attended Alan's marriage to Janet who was born on 14th May 1944. Her Grandfather came over from Ireland and ran a lodging house in York.

Janet is in white (centre), Alan is to her left and on her right is Alan's mother, my auntie Annie. To the right of Annie is my mother and Alan's father, Harry. I am just behind Harry and Jacqueline's head can be seen just to the left of mine.

Alan and Janet had two children: Stephen born on 19th November 1971 and Alison born 14th April 1976. They lost a stillborn child in 1968.

We visited Alan and Janet in

We ate some good meals there, both at the house and in restaurants. The emphasis was on "Indian curries", partly due to Alan's past culinary exploits when he ran a Curry Club for many years.

I can't finish this account without mentioning another member of Alan and Janet's household:

This is JET their rescue dog.

STORM (Jethart Storm) had waited for a retirement place for 3 yrs after his last race but almost as soon as

he had arrived here he had the greatest luck in meeting Janet & Alan Hurt and showed them what we had also

seen immediately-this tall and stately boy was the most gentle and affectionate dog would could wish to meet.
